FEI Driving Rules

Changes for 2025

FEI Driving Rule Changes 2025

Three relatively minor changes to the Driving rules have been announced by the FEI. These will apply to all CAI (International) competitions.

Protective Gear Update (Article 928)

To enhance safety, the term "back protectors" has been replaced with "body protectors," ensuring athletes and grooms are required to wear securely fastened protective headgear and a body protector during marathon and combined marathon events.

Start and Finish Line Regulations (Articles 975 & 981)

To eliminate inconsistencies, rules about passing start and finish lines have been clarified. Athletes failing to pass the starting line after the bell before attempting an obstacle or failing to cross the finish line before exiting the arena will now face elimination.

Noseband Tightness Standards (Article 940 & Veterinary Regulations 1044.8)

A new FEI measuring device for noseband tightness will be introduced across disciplines, starting 1 May 2025, to ensure consistent and reliable readings.

The FEI Rule Changes videos, including the FEI General Regulations Rule Changes for 2025, are available on FEI Campus in each discipline hub, as well as the FEI Veterinary hub.

Additionally, FEI HorseApp users will have also received notifications about the 2025 FEI Rule Changes.  A written summary of all changes is now available on the newly created FEI Rules Changes 2025 hub.
