Another warm day at Anslow
The third One-Day Event run by Midlands Carriagedriving at Anslow on 12th July continued this summer’s series of heatwaves with another warm day. However, the heat was turned up in the highly competitive Gateway Newcomers class which was won by Joanne Pitts. Despite a rather hefty penalty score in dressage, Joanne picked up the pace in the obstacles to overtake Liz Whitehead and win by 1.13 penalties with dressage leader Vicky Nurcombe in third, 1.03 penalties behind Liz.
Matt Illston-Barsby led all the way in the Gateway Allcomers with his coloured pair, taking the red rosette ahead of Rachel Reilly.
Elisabeth Greensmith and Linda Wiggin went head-to-head in the Open Pony class. Linda led the dressage phase but dropped behind Elisabeth after cones and was marginally slower through the obstacles to take second place with Elisabeth finishing first.
Fastest obstacles of the day went to Sandra White in Small Equine while she and her pony vastly improved their cones score from last time, adding just eight penalties in the second phase. Sandra’s husband Jon (Novice Horse) also had a decent cones score and is no slouch through the obstacles.
Lucy Lee and her 5-year-old American Miniature stallion performed the second-best dressage of the day (55.80) as the sole competitor in the Very Small Equine class.
The next ODE at Anslow will be on Sunday 9th August with entries closing the Wednesday before. Schedule details are available on the club’s website www.midlandscarriagedriving.co.uk/events.
