First of Midlands’ ODEs gets off to a good start

Easter Sunday saw the first of Midlands Carriagedriving’s (MC) One-Day Events at Anslow, Derbyshire, when new horses and ponies were learning the ropes and some drivers proved they are a bit rusty after the enforced breaks of the last two years.

However, a simple thing like a lorry breakdown in the middle of Burton-on-Trent didn’t stop Nicola Corby and crew from turning up. Unable to get the lorry started again, the pony and carriage were unloaded and driven to the nearby venue, where they performed well in the Intermediate class for a first event of the season.

Cath Brockie and her new pony showed everyone how it was done in the Pre-Novice section with a classy dressage of 45.72, just one down in the cones and quick times round the four obstacles. Jon White fairly flew the first two obstacles with good times in the others to take the Novice Horse class.

Sole entry in the Open Horse, Mark Riley suffered ‘Senior Moments’ in both cones and Obstacle 1 before finishing the course.

The second ODE takes place at Poplars Farm on Sunday 8 May while the first of the 2DEs will be 14 & 15 May at Thoresby Park.

These will be followed by Locko Park 2DE (4 & 5 June), Poplar Farm ODEs on 12 June and 17 July, Onley 2DE, incorporating Club, Regional and British Young Driver Championship classes (30 & 31 July), the final Poplar Farm ODE on 21 August and, to round off the season, Oasby 2DE on 10 & 11 September.

Schedules and full details of all these competitions can be found on the MC website: midlandscarriagedriving.co.uk or find us on Facebook at Midlands Carriagedriving.
