Midlands Carriagedriving reports on 2021 and looks forward to next season at its AGM

8 December 2021 by Kingswood Associates

At its recent AGM and Competitors’ Conference, Midlands Carriagedriving (MC) chairman Dave Wheeldon welcomed members and stewards who had braved arctic conditions to enjoy a buffet lunch prior to the business of the day.

Dave and Steve Trebble were re-elected to serve a further three-year term on the committee and this was followed by adoption of the financial report. The report showed MC to be in a sound financial position and ready to go forward into 2022.

The Competitors’ Conference opened with the Chairman’s Report, in which Dave thanked everyone for their support and hard work during what had been yet another difficult year for competitions, with just three events able to go ahead.

The new venue at Oasby was much enjoyed and elicited positive feedback for its future. The slow start to the season allowed for additional training and 10 club members attended a First Aid course.

Looking ahead to 2022, five events are in the diary; Anslow practice day and one-day event in April, two-day trials at Thoresby Hall (May) and Locko Park (June), a Regional event in July at Onley and the Club Championships at Oasby in September.

Commenting on a number of FEI rule changes currently being considered by British Carriagedriving (BC), Dave said: ‘Once BC’s approach has been confirmed, the Midlands committee will provide an update to the membership. One rule change which is likely to be adopted is the requirement to wear hard hats in the cones phase.’

He added: ‘From 2022, we hope to run a series of one day events throughout the season, details of which the committee are still working on and once these are finalised, information will be added to our website. Improvements are planned for the website to make it more user friendly and to help ensure it is kept up to date. A thank you goes to Siobhan Fletcher for offering her assistance with these improvements and management of the website.’
