At British Young Drivers (BYD), we are passionate about supporting and developing the next generation of carriage drivers.
We are dedicated to:
• Encouraging and supporting young drivers at every stage of their journey
• Delivering structured training programmes tailored to individual ability
• Hosting exclusive events, including the Easter Clinic and Junior Championships
• Creating a fun, inclusive and supportive community
• Providing a clear pathway to national and international competition
We believe in learning, friendship and healthy competition. Through expert training, team experiences and competitive opportunities, we provide the stepping stones to help young drivers succeed in carriage driving.
Our Committee
BYD is run by a dedicated volunteer committee, including two young driver representatives who ensure the voice of our members is heard.
Your main contacts are Mary Jane Campbell and Jo Alvis, who coordinate training, camps and events throughout the year.
International Opportunities
For ambitious young drivers, representing Great Britain on the international stage is an exciting and rewarding challenge.
British Young Drivers actively compete in FEI events, including the prestigious FEI Driving European Championships.

Pathway to International Competition
Young drivers wishing to compete internationally must:
• Be members of British Carriagedriving
• Demonstrate performance at national competitions
• Attend designated training camps and assessments
Selected drivers receive structured training, expert guidance and team support to help them perform confidently on the international stage.
Our International Squad is proudly sponsored by Champion Equestrian, providing high-quality helmets and safety equipment to support our young drivers competing at the highest level.
Who can join?
British Young Drivers is open to carriage drivers aged 6–30 years.
Whether you are just starting out or already competing, there is a place for you within BYD.
