British Young Drivers enjoyed a successful weekend at the Hopetoun Horse Driving Trials, with members competing across a range of classes at the Scottish venue.

In the BYD Children’s Class, Theo and Evie produced a closely fought competition across all three phases. Theo led after dressage with a score of 40.8, holding a narrow advantage over Evie. The marathon saw both young drivers tackle the demanding Hopetoun hills well, with Evie reducing the gap to less than a point going into the final cones phase. Both drivers completed within the time, but with a ball down for Evie and Theo producing the only double clear of the class, Theo secured the win after an exciting finish.

In the Junior Class, Izzy and Brock had an excellent event, showing consistency throughout all three phases. Their marathon performance was a particular highlight, with Izzy describing it as their best marathon to date. The combination looked confident and competitive throughout the weekend as they continue preparations for their next outing at Chepstow.

Phoebe also impressed in the Advanced Single Horse class during only her second competition at this level in H1. Competing at Hopetoun for the first time, Phoebe and her horse Liberty rose to the challenge of the demanding course, finishing second after dressage on 39.12 before a strong marathon performance moved them into the lead. A successful cones round secured the overall win, providing an encouraging result as preparations continue for this year’s European Championship.

The Hopetoun organisers were praised for running a fantastic event at a beautiful and challenging venue, which proved an enjoyable and valuable experience for all the British Young Drivers competitors.
