A new Chairman for Midlands as wheels roll for the 2021 season

Report by Wendy Nix

Midlands Carriagedriving (MC) is pleased to announce that David Wheeldon has taken the reins as Chairman of the club.

David, who has been a member of the MC Board since 2015 was appointed by other Board members to the role following the sad death of Dave West last October.

David has been involved with driving trials since 1998 as his partner, Tracey Kelsall, used to backstep for Gerald Booth.

In 2008 Tracey bought David a ‘Try Driving’ experience run by the late Amanda Saville and her partner John Nisbet, hosted at Bennington Carriages.

From that moment he was hooked and is a regular competitor at club, Regional and National events driving a pony pair.

David and Tracey’s daughter, Megan Wheeldon, is a very successful British Young Driver, having started with ‘Skippy’ who previously belonged to Gerald Booth.

MC held a belated 2020 AGM and Competitors’ Conference meeting via Zoom on 24 January.

A full schedule of competitions - available on the club’s website - has been mapped out for 2021 and it is fervently hoped that the Covid-19 pandemic will not scupper the season; further details will be released as each event draws near.
