Midlands Carriagedriving (MC) held its AGM and Competitors’ Conference on 24 November at the LOROS Centre in Leicester.

While 2019 had not been a vintage year for the club, resulting for the first time in many years in a financial deficit, funds remained steady with much to look forward to in 2020.

Despite the loss, membership fees will remain the same with a small increase of £5.00 on competition entries next year.

Bob Auton and Emma Burton both stood down from the MC Board with Geoff Kirby and Ian Wall replacing them; Emma will continue as Webmaster for the club.

The 2019 season had been slow to start with MC’s first event of the year at Anslow having to be cancelled due to lack of support, however, things picked up at Thoresby and with two superb new venues in Locko Park and Frickley Park.

Onley Grounds in August was held as a BC Regional competition and hosted the British Young Drivers Championships; the season finished with another visit to Thoresby for the Club Championships where the cones course was laid out in front of the house and watched by many members of the public.

The annual trophies, awards and league rosettes were presented by MC President George Spencer.

Paul Hart took home the Open Horse and Open Dressage trophies. Other winners were Joanne Gadsby (Novice), Chris Patrick (Intermediate), Julie Tomasik (Open Pony), Angela Flanagan (Horse Pairs) and Anne Chambers (Tandem).

The Chairman’s Trophy went to Steve Trebble for his hard work in organising Thoresby twice as well as being a co-scorer and competitor at all events.

As a thank you to the club’s chairman and events secretary, Dave and Lesley West, the couple were presented with a vintage train journey voucher.
