Public discover the thrills of driving trials thanks to Midlands Carriagedriving

Five hardy members of Midlands Carriagedriving (MC), plus their backsteppers and organisers, defied the heavy rain to put on
an excellent display of cone and obstacle driving in the main arena at Southwell Ploughing Match (28 September).

Visitors to the show watched Elisabeth Greensmith, Sue Mart, Steve Trebble, Angela Flanagan and Angela Smith take part in a mini-competition against the clock, cheering them on and applauding loudly – encouraged by the very chatty commentator, Ben Smith.

Thankfully the rain held off during the display as the five raced twice round the course. Elisabeth won the singles thanks to her combined time although Sue recorded the fastest time of the day with her second round; Angela Smith’s little Welsh ponies took the multiples rosette.

Congratulations go to all concerned as the display was a brilliant way to bring our sport to the public’s attention, and certainly drew quite a crowd round the arena to watch the action.
