Mick Peace
13 March 2018

It is with great sadness that we announce that Mick Peace has passed away at home.

Mick was a long serving member of Midlands Carriagedriving and British Horse Driving Trials for many years, and competed successfully in the horse pairs class at club and national level.

With his horses Peggy and Alfie, it was always exiting to watch him attacking the marathon obstacles in his familiar Leicester Tigers Rugby club colours.

As an enthusiastic supporter of driving trials, he was a regular member of the set up team at club events.

As a qualified vet, Mick was often seen at the halt area of the marathon course, to offer his help and advice on any horse welfare matter.

Mick and Jilly always enjoyed the social side of carriage driving, and there was often a gathering around their stable area, dubbed 'Billy Smarts', in reference to the circus tent colours, where the 6 o’clock club would meet.

This was where senior members of the club would gather to sooth the injustice of the days dressage scores with a glass or three of whiskey (not for the faint hearted, or lightweight drinkers!)

Mick will be sadly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him, and we all send our heartfelt sympathies to Jilly and his family.

Mick's funeral will be on Tuesday, 10th April at 12 noon, at Nuneaton Crematorium.
