It is with deep regret that Midlands Driving Trials Group (MDTG) has taken the decision to cancel both the BHDTA National and MDTG Club driving trials at Arena UK. The competitions were due to take place 15 ? 17 April 2011.

Members of the MDTG Board reached the decision by unanimous agreement after a long discussion at a meeting held this week.

MDTG Chairman, Roger Godfrey, said: ?We are sad and extremely disappointed to have to cancel the event at Arena UK. The decision has been based on the very real possibility that financial expenditure would have exceeded anticipated income. There is no doubt that the current recession is hitting equestrian sport hard ? exacerbated by rising fuel, hay and bedding costs ? badly affecting potential sponsors and the number of competitors required to make the event financially viable.

?As an affiliated club our responsibility is to our members and the prospect of making a loss from Arena UK was not an option. At the outset there was much enthusiasm from many quarters for a competition at this new venue but we have to be sensible and face the realities of the economic climate.

?The MDTG Board would like to publicly thank Arena UK?s owner, Norman Oley, and everyone else who has been so supportive.?
