BRITISH TEAM FOR WORLD HORSE PAIRS CHAMPIONSHIPS
Kecskemet, Hungary

After five selection events held at the National Championships, Windsor (2008) and Hopetoun, Farleigh, Sandringham and Catton (all 2009), Team GBR for the World Horse Pairs Championships to be held in Kecskemet, Hungary between 20th to 23rd August, has been confirmed.

The three team members are David Matthews Jnr., Barnaby Bowman & John Pickford. Joanna Attenborough has accepted an invitation to compete as an individual.

David Matthews, a farrier from Maidenhead, secured his place early on with 2 wins & a second in the first three selection events but the other 2 places were only decided on the cones course at the last selection event at Catton.

Barnaby Bowman from Penrith won his place after good results at Sandringham and Farleigh overcoming some difficulties in the earlier events. ?I am over the moon to have made the team. It is a great honour to represent your country? says Barnaby.

John Pickford, an engineer from Alton, Hants just got the last place from Mark Lee and Joanna Attenborough who finished tied, one point behind. John you will recognise as the leader of the team who organise the Farleigh event.

Although just behind Mark Lee on a comparison of marathon scores in the selection events, Jo Attenborough will now represent GBR in the individual competition.  Mark Lee has unfortunately had to withdraw his entry. Jo said, "I am delighted to be given this opportunity although I feel very disappointed for Mark."

Patrick Martin from the Blaircourt Equine Clinic, in Essex will be the team vet and George Bowman Snr. will be travelling with the team to give the benefit of his lifetime of international competition experience as Team Coach.

Finally the Chef d'Equipe is Derrick Mayes, with Georgie Matthews as his assistant.
