BRITISH GIRLS WIN TEAM BRONZE
18 July 2005

The British all-girl team took the bronze medal at the FEI World Combined Pony Championships at Catton, behind Germany and The Netherlands.

The team made up of Sue Denney (singles), Sara Howe (singles), Rachel Stevens (pairs), Ursula Hirschberg (fours), Sarah-Jane Cook (fours) and Jo Rennison (pairs)  were lying fourth after the Dressage, but moved up to third following storming marathon rounds by Sara and Sue, and especially by Jo who won this phase of the competition in the pairs class.

An exceptional double clear round on the very difficult cones course by Sue and only a couple of time penalties for Ursula clinched the bronze medal for the team.

Jo Rennison?s great marathon round had put her in silver medal position in the individual rankings going in to the cones. She is usually so consistent in this phase, but sadly she dropped to finish in individual 6th place overall after a disappointing round, so it was Rachel Stevens? cones score that counted towards the team total.

Sue Denney would have undoubtedly won an individual medal had she not had a misunderstanding about a last-minute change of route in the third obstacle, but she went on to achieve the fastest times of all in three of the last five obstacles to be third in her class in this phase, and finish fourth overall in the final placings.

Well done to all the British drivers who competed at Catton and special thanks to Chef d'Equipe Jill Holah for her brilliant organisation and running of the Team GB camp !
