|Lifting of FMD restrictions|
5 Mar 2002
We have just received a call from Andrew Turnbull of DEFRA who advises that all restrictions regarding holding equestrian events on agricultural premises have been lifted, therefore the 28 rule is no longer in force. DEFRA advise that events should not be held where a restriction is still in place on specific premises or within 1 kilometre of such premises but stressed this is advisory, information on premises where restrictions still apply can be obtained from local DEFRA offices (or Hunt Secretaries)!
In another news statement, DEFRA andvise that laboratory tests have confirmed that a farm near Hawnby in North Yorkshire, which has been under investigation since 26 February, is free from foot and mouth disease.
More information is available on the DEFRA (Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs) website at http://www.defra.gov.uk/footandmouth/
