Antonia Maas died peacefully on the morning of 11 March 2017 in Sussex after a long battle with heart
problems. Carriage driving was a great passion in her very active life, from the days of the Brockham Harness Club
in the 1970s through to FEI competitions around Europe in the 1990s.
Her son Jonathan spent most of his youth with
her at a whole host of events, first as a single driver with Pimms and latterly as a pairs driver with Brandy and
She always drove Welsh cobs. Towards the end of her active life she switched back to singles with Laddie,
taking great joy in carrying newlyweds to and from the church in her trap.
Her final journey to church, on 3rd April
at Amberley in Sussex, will fittingly be by horse-drawn hearse (a pair, of course!).
If any friends would like to
make a donation to a cause in her name, she supported the Dogs Trust, as equines were slowly replaced by canines.
Jonathan notes it is interesting to observe that her dogs got bigger and bigger over time!
